A blank word document, the familiar sound of the laptop that‘s working too hard and a mind that keeps drifting off to places it‘s not supposed to go. Or is it? Working, studying or anything else that keeps me in one place for more than six months seems like a waste of time. Not because I’m lazy, but because really I should be out there in the big wide world exploring it all. So maybe it is supposed to go there. Maybe I should be checking what a flight to Australia costs or what the weather is like in Cuba. There’s battery on my camera, I’ve got flats for any kind of weather and what’s the worst that can happen if I put things off for a while and travel instead? My mind drifts off, dreaming about magic waterfalls, camels in the desert and small turtles, making their way to the ocean for the first time…
Ping! New mail.
Oh right, university… work… projects… That’s what I was supposed to do. Come on, concentrate. This article won’t write itself. I take my travel dreams out of their little imaginary box and put them in another one labelled “plans”. Then I reopen the empty word document, intending to be absolutely focused now. I write the first sentence… Well, now that I’ve started it won’t take me that long. You know, the first sentence is always the hardest. I’m sure I’ll be able to finish this by tonight. Speaking of time, did you know that it only takes five to six hours to get to Egypt? Maybe I should check that out really quick…
